The purpose of the Macon County Historical Society is to obtain, preserve, maintain, and provide resources for people interested in local history and genealogy. Researchers may find copies of old deeds, ledgers, diaries, Bible records, church minutes, photographs, and court records in the Society's office. The office's location is 111 East Locust Street, Lafayette, Tennessee.
The primary focus of the Society is to discover, collect, and share any material which may help to establish or illustrate the history of the area: its exploration, settlement, activities, and former residents. Through the efforts of the Society members, many projects have successfully been accomplished to preserve these historic records and documents.
